For the Long Haul

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…” Hebrews 12:1
A Warrior cross-country runner wrote this scripture reference on her shoulders before a race last week. It is an inspirational verse for running a challenging course; it is an even better reminder that living for Christ is a long race that requires endurance. So many obstacles can hinder us on the way, but we have the best cheering section to keep us going for the long haul.
From academics to sports to living the Christian life, it will pay off when we endure.
A few recent examples come to mind. Our soccer team achieved an extraordinary academic honor for the second consecutive year. The high team GPA wouldn’t be maintainable without regular study. Our high school volleyball team doesn’t give up even when they fall behind in a game. The result? They are currently undefeated!
What a privilege it is to have a front-row seat to students’ learning, growing, and experiencing setbacks yet enduring. Our prayers are with them to do just that as we coach, teach, encourage, and cheer them on to live for Christ. May they run the race and never give up!
