Laying the Groundwork

Now that we’re into the school year, our teachers, directors, coaches, and leaders are laying the groundwork to help our students succeed. Watching them in action, we can see how the biblical principle of having a strong foundation (Matthew 7:24-27) can apply not only to our spiritual walk, but also to academics, athletics, and the arts.

We watch as our athletes employ fundamentals during a game after working hard in practice. Or see our drama students practicing lines for the first time, knowing that they will eventually perform them with confidence. Musicians struggling to master new music and art students learning unfamiliar techniques can be encouraged that their tenacity will eventually pay off. Students of all ages are learning to understand new concepts and apply theories in practice.

But what is better than seeing our students being challenged to grasp their faith in deeper ways through Bible lessons and Chapel services?

Laying groundwork in our lives takes faith, time, care, and community. We can’t achieve “Deep Roots, Strong Faith, and Overflowing Love” in a day, a month, or a year. It’s a lifelong process that we can’t do on our own. But, as we look to Jesus as the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), we can rest in knowing He is there to help, guide, and empower us to help us grow and do all He has called us to do.
