No Greater Love

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:12-13
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
As we approach Resurrection Sunday, it is humbling to reflect on Christ’s death and resurrection. Yet, His love and sacrifice should inspire and compel us to love others the way He loves us by the power of the Holy Spirit. What a challenge, but what a privilege!
The desire to show God’s love inspired our spring service project, which we completed this week. Our students packed 100 backpacks for children in foster shelters throughout West Virginia. Families donated everything from toiletry items to stuffed animals to devotionals. Some classes even created handmade bracelets and inspirational artwork, offering a personal touch to the outreach. Our older students guided younger ones to customize each backpack according to an anonymous profile provided by the shelter. It was touching to see the students choosing items with care and consideration.
The backpacks have yet to be delivered, but the gifts are already touching hearts. When they heard the details of the finished project, shelter directors responded with gratitude.
“What an absolutely beautiful thing to see. Such an act of love and I am so thankful.”
“This is so wonderful! We are so incredibly appreciative!!!! I can’t wait for our kiddos to see them.”
Academics are crucial to our mission at Trinity Christian, but “educating for life” encompasses so much more. Teaching our students His Word and giving them opportunities to serve like Christ, without expecting any reward in return, is just as crucial, if not more so. While it’s doubtful we will ever meet the recipients of the backpacks, we pray that this simple act of kindness will impact them and our students for years to come.
