Pray and Seek

“…if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV

Prayer is humbling. It shows our dependency, our need for God. But it is also liberating. We can “cast our cares” (1 Peter 5:7) on the God of the universe, knowing His shoulders are big enough to handle them. We can ask for wisdom. (He loves that! James 1:5) We can express our joys, our gratitude, our concerns, and our griefs. Prayer is a gift.

This week, our senior Bible class gathered around the flagpole with all the secondary students to pray as a part of See You at the Pole, a self-described global day of student prayer. Pastor and senior Bible teacher James Sabin got things started by sharing verses from the scriptures, then released the seniors to lead each class in separate prayer circles. Afterward, the seniors served refreshments to their classmates before enjoying some breakfast treats themselves. Our elementary classes prayed throughout the day, circling the flagpole, despite the rainy conditions.

See You at the Pole was one of several examples of our students “learning by doing” this week. From rock collecting in science to a mock trial in English, our students had many opportunities to engage their hearts, minds, and spirits in learning this week.
