Good News of Great Joy

“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.'” ~ Luke 2:10
We’re not sure what life looked like for the shepherds in the fields on the night of Jesus’ birth. Were they burdened with the care of feeding their families and protecting their flocks? Maybe they were missing their loved ones while they were on the night watch. Did they anticipate a coming Savior? Or did they feel forgotten and alone? Surely they couldn’t have guessed that, before the night was over, they would be visited by an angel of the Lord and an army of angels who proclaimed the life-changing news that their Savior was born!
In the crazy busyness that can overwhelm us at this time of year, it is great to see and hear reminders—in artwork, chapels, songs, and acts of kindness—that our Savior has come. The good news of our Savior’s deliverance wasn’t just for the shepherds; it should bring us just as much joy and comfort today.
