Tenacious

Merriam-Webster defines tenacious as “not easily pulled apart: cohesive” and “persistent in maintaining, adhering to, or seeking something valued or desired.”

Tenacious is an appropriate word to describe our middle school boys’ varsity basketball team. It’s been a rough season for these guys. Despite showing up to practices and maintaining a good team attitude, wins have eluded them. That was until last night. Down five points in the fourth quarter against crosstown rival Clay-Battelle, the team dug deep and came up with their first victory of the season, winning by just one point!

If you hadn’t followed the team, you wouldn’t understand the magnitude of this win or the depth of their tenacity. Many other teams would have given up. But they stuck with it. Not only that, their coaches and parents have tenaciously encouraged them and cheered them on.

The students who serve on Student Council can also be described as tenacious. They have been drafting a constitution for weeks, going back and forth with revisions. Today they finalized and signed the document, officially adopting the new Constitution. Their perseverance is impressive and will serve future generations of TCS students well.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

Tenacity can pay off in many ways, especially in our Christian walk. As our students persevere in athletics, academics, arts, and other areas, we pray they will seek Jesus tenaciously and never give up serving Him.
