Trinity Christian Adds Varsity Football in 2019

Trinity Christian School of Morgantown will offer varsity football for the 2019 season, naming former WVU Football Player, Marcus Law, as its head coach.

Trinity Superintendent, Michelle Stellato-Belt, made the announcement on Wednesday during a noon press luncheon at the Marriott Hotel at Waterfront Place in Morgantown.

“After much reflection and prayer, it is with great privilege, I announce that the Board and administration of Trinity Christian School has decided to field a high school varsity football team beginning in the 2019-2020 school year,” Stellato-Belt says. “It is our hope that this decision will offer yet another opportunity for our students to use their talents and abilities to bring honor to God during their time at Trinity. Our football team will compete as a member of the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC)”.

Trinity Christian is also a member of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference and the Mason Dixon Conference.

Former WVU football player, Marcus Law, was introduced as the school’s head coach during the luncheon. The school also announced an exclusive five-year agreement with Nike/BSN Sports to be the sole provider of the school’s athletic apparel, uniforms, and equipment.

Trinity Athletic Director, Cary Woods, said Law’s experience as both a player and a head coach made him an ideal candidate to take on the challenge of leading a new program.

“I can’t think of a better person to lead our new football program,” Woods said. “Marcus brings his experience as a Division I player along with his proven leadership skills and knowledge from his role as an assistant coach at a successful Morgantown High School football program. Equally as important, I believe he demonstrates the character necessary to mold our boys into young men with the Christian values that all of us connected with the school and the program desire.”

In his remarks, Law took time to thank Stellato-Belt, Woods and the entire Trinity family.

“This is an extremely exciting time for me as I prepare to become the head football coach at Trinity Christian School. My family and I are extremely grateful for this opportunity,” Law says. “I want to personally thank Michelle, Cary and the Board for having confidence in me. We are going to demand a lot from our players including the way they conduct themselves both on and off the field and we will expect them to work as hard in the classroom as they do on the football field.”

Bill Isaly, Nike/BSN Sports Regional Sales Manager, also attended the press luncheon and took time to share his company’s enthusiasm with the new partnership.

When asked about the agreement, Isaly said, “We are very excited to partner with Trinity Christian School. The school has committed to a culture of excellence with their students and athletes and we are excited to play a role in the development of their program.”

The Warriors have seven games slated for the 2019 season with the goal of adding three more to complete a full 10 game schedule. The current schedule includes three home games at the yet to be named stadium on the school’s campus.

Stellato-Belt indicated the school has plans for an athletic facility expansion, saying, “Although the full athletic complex is still in the planning stages, we hope to have lights installed by our first home game and to break ground on a multi-purpose building, which would include home and away locker rooms and a workout area, in the near future.”

Trinity is scheduled to kick-off its season on Friday, August 30 at home against Mapletown (Pa). The Warriors’ first road game is the following week on September 6 at Weirton Madonna; Trinity returns home for a September 27 game against Notre Dame and will play at the famed Harding Stadium in Steubenville against Steubenville Central Catholic on Saturday, October 19. A home game against Tygarts Valley is scheduled for October 25. The last two games on the current schedule are at East Hardy on November 1 and at Wirt County on November 8. The team is still hoping to schedule games the weekends of September 13-14; September 20-21; October 4-5 and October 11-12.
